Feeling loved and respected
I’m Jewish. And, I work for a Christian organization that is clear in its mission to live out Christian values of love, respect, understanding, and welcoming all people. The Chaplains actively work to create a culture of belonging for all served and all team members. This morning, in a large staff meeting, the Chaplain (who provides spiritual care and general support for all team members) started the meeting by mentioning that Jews recently celebrated Purim, Hindus celebrated the festival of colors - Holi, Christians are in the Holy Week leading up to Easter, and that we are in the midst of the Muslim days of Ramadan. He then told a story of being in a Muslim nation, and being fed during the day, while his hosts fasted. He protested, but they insisted. He ended by saying that honoring others - showing hospitality - honors others without diminishing or disrespecting our own beliefs. So, today, I am feeling pretty good about my workplace and about my peers - feeling loved and respected.
